Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

21 April 1926 to 8 September 2022

We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen. As the UK’s longest serving monarch, Her Majesty has remained an influential figure throughout her 70-year reign and will be greatly missed.

On behalf of everyone in our parish, we would like to take this opportunity to offer our condolences to the Royal Family.

As a mark of respect, public Parish Council meetings will be cancelled during the period of mourning.

The flag at Littleton Recreation Ground is being flown at half mast. It will be raised to full mast on Proclamation day and then returned back to half mast at the appropriate time.

A Book of Condolence has been opened at the Littleton Millennium Memorial Hall, and will be available in the outer foyer from 9:30am to 5pm each day. Condolence books will also be available at the Winchester Cathedral, the Guildhall, the Great Hall, and online at https://www.royal.uk.

Those wishing to lay floral tributes should do so at the Cathedral, the Great Hall, and at Abbey Gardens in Winchester.

The Show Society is pleased to announce that the Littleton and Harestock Show will be returning after a 2-year break caused by Covid. The Flower Show will, as usual, be the centrepiece of the show, with competitions for all – flowers and produce, craft, art and photography. 

There will be an excellent Craft Show this year, with more stalls than ever before and a wider range of crafts on display. 

Music at this year’s show will be provided by the Salisbury Big Band, playing hits from the 1940s to the present day. 

Headline entertainments will include Bird of Prey static and flying displays, a Punch and Judy show, a Fire Juggler, and a giant Scalextric racetrack. The usual range of traditional village fete games will be at the show as well as the dog gymkhana, tombola and the grand raffle. Reg Day’s funfair has kindly agreed to come again to provide entertainment for the little ones. 

The show will, as always, provide fund raising opportunities for local groups including sports clubs, the Scout Group, the WI and about a dozen Charities, who will have stalls at the show. 

Plenty of food outlets this year so come and have lunch with us. 

In response to the huge move away from cash over the last couple of years, we will be operating cashless payment devices at the gate and at some of the stalls, but please bring cash to spend once inside.

We guarantee a fun day out for everyone, so be sure to put these dates in your diary:

Hampshire County Council is seeking the views of residents about 20 mph limits within Hampshire.
The County Council is keen to hear from as many residents, businesses and other stakeholders as possible, to find out their views on the implementation of 20mph limits in the context of other highways priorities and the County Council’s statutory duties to maintain the highway in a safe condition within a limited budget.

The findings from the survey, together with data about use of the highway, speed enforcement, road safety and environmental impacts will be important in helping to shape future policy relating to 20mph speed limits in Hampshire and, in turn, future decision-making around 20mph speed limits.

The survey is available at: https://www.hants.gov.uk/transport/transportschemes/20mph-speed-limits-consultation and should take just 15 minutes to complete.

It is open until midnight on Monday 12 September 2022.

On 19 July 2022, the Winchester City Council agreed to restart the Station Approach project and launch a comprehensive and active engagement process working with the community and adjacent landowners.

Regeneration of the Station Approach area with a sustainable mixed-use development has potential to contribute to a vibrant, green economy that revitalises the urban environment with the aim to create welcoming space for those that live locally, travel from the station or visit our City.

The engagement and consultation process has been launched today (1st August) to allow the public, local businesses and stakeholders the opportunity to share their opinions to help shape the future development of Station Approach. The initial stage of engagement will run for 12 weeks up until 21 October.

A website has been created www.winchesterstationapproach.co.uk – which features an interactive map for comments as well an online survey for people to tell us what they think. Paper copies of the survey are also available by emailing info@winchesterstationapproach.co.uk or calling 0800 148 8911.

Two consultation events are also planned in the Autumn. The first is on Thursday 15th September from 14:00 to 19:00, outside the main entrance to the station, and the second on Saturday 24th September from 10am to 14:00 in a market stall on the High Street.

The council has received further information from the consulting company who are managing the installation of a new 33Kv cable from the Three Maids Hill Solar Park to the substation off Stockbridge Road.  

In order to carry out the works they have applied for two road closures for through traffic as follows: 

Stud Land 

This road will be closed in two phases between 29^th June 2022 and 9^th September 2022. The first phase is almost complete, and the council understand this road will be re-opened on 1^st August whilst Main Rd is closed. 

Main Rd 

From Monday 25^th July, part of Main Road will be closed for through traffic from the Kennel Lane/Deane Down Drove/Main Rd junction (near the brick bus stop) to Stockbridge Rd. It will continue to be open from the bus stop junction to the north of the village, and there will be a diversion via Harestock Rd and Kennel Lane. Deane Down Drove will remain open throughout the works. 

From Monday 1^st August, the full extent of Main Rd will be closed for through traffic, and Stud Lane will be opened up.  Access will be available to residents, to the Running Horse public house and the Recreation Ground at all times. Signs will be available that indicate how to access the Running Horse and the Recreation Ground depending on where the Main Rd road works are located at any one time. 

Buses 

The council have been informed that the no 7 bus that travels through Deane Down Drove will operate throughout the works, however the no 16 will be stopped from Monday 25^th July for the full extent of the works.  

The road contractors have arranged for a replacement taxi-share service for the no 16 on Monday-Friday twice a day as follows: – 

9:25   Out (to Winchester)      11:40 Return 

12:00 Out (to Winchester)      14:05 Return

Littleton and Harestock Show 

At the request of the Parish Council, the contractors will be ceasing all works between Thursday 1^st September until Sunday 4^th September to allow organisers and members of the public unrestricted access to the show. Further arrangements are being made to accommodate site deliveries.
