Additional weekend closures for concrete repairs.
Whilst carrying out repairs to the bridge which carries the A272 over the A34 at Three Maids Hill junction, the Highways England team have found extensive damage to the concrete hidden beneath the surface, which must be repaired.
To carry out this work prior to the new bridge joints being installed, they will need to close the bridge in both directions over the A34, on the following dates:
- 9pm on Friday 5 November through to 6am on Monday 8 November 2021
- 9pm on Friday 12 November through to 6am on Sunday 14 November 2021
Full weekends are required due to the time required for the materials to harden properly.
The bridge will be reopened early on Sunday 14 November to allow for Remembrance Day services in the area.
During the closures, the following signed diversions will be in place:
- Eastbound bridge – traffic will be diverted north on the A34 to Bullington Cross, then back south on the A34 to either continue their journey or exit for Christmas Hill (Worthy Down/South Wonston/Sutton Scotney
- Westbound bridge – traffic will be diverted south on the A34 to the Winnall roundabout, then back north on the A34 to either continue their journey or exit for A272/Stud Lane/Andover Road North
Highways England would advise all motorists to follow the signed diversion routes as they have been chosen with both suitability and safety in mind.
Please note that these works are subject to change, due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Closures will be advertised on yellow signs placed in advance at the junction, on our website and South-East Twitter page (@HighwaysSEAST).
